Identity is not arrived at. Rather it is enacted, again and again, in the presence of witnesses.
Songs of Becoming honors the ritual of claiming one’s full self. Layered mixed-media portraits and sculptural headdresses draw on folk costume, bird forms, and ancestral ceremonial dress to mark the threshold moments that shape a life.
These works are neither portrait nor costume but something between—a record of transformation, a ceremonial stepping-forward. Figures emerge from accumulated material and memory, wearing their becoming like a second skin.
